The Film Florida Legislative meeting underlined some basic points in what is happening and what has to happen to change it. Now I know what it feels like to cast a project. I am doing a voiceover for a local manufacturer of lifts for wheelchairs and scooters. The producer asked me if I knew of local actors that would fit the background scenarios. He needed five of different generations. Fortunately, I do know five wonderful actors who fit the bill. Even though there is not dialogue involved, it is a paying gig! I am happy to say that it will be special to see them on set tomorrow.

It's always exciting to get involved in new projects. And, I believe that the way to do that is to keep busy marketing yourself - not only to get a role - but also when you are on a set and working. There was a full cast meeting for TRIO, the TV pilot I am cast in, on Sunday. It's a rather G-Rated show that just may catch on. It is being pitched to a new cable network, VIZNetowork, that is not launched yet.

Since Florida is a Right To Work state, the ramifications for actors are many. By far, most of the work available is non-union. However, if you want to get parts that pay well, you have to be a SAG member. There is a middle ground called SAG Eligible that has to be attained through a small part in a production by a SAG signatory. I traveled up to JAX on a call back for a role in a TV pilot called TRIO and was cast as a (wait for it) bumbling pirate. It's a show for kids and should be fun as I do as good an ARGGHH as any pirate has ever done.

Profanity - The Movie will be going into production soon in Orlando and I have been cast as the Cockney Tourist in one of the vignettes about the confusion of language.
SONY Pict's CRISS CROSS(Wild Things 4) was shot at The Bonnet House in Ft. Lauderdale. It was a hot shoot as the scenes were all outdoors.

SONY Pictures is shooting Criss Cross in S. Florida and I am going to be in it! I'll be on the set this week for the funeral scene. The 1949 version of Criss Cross is a film noir classic. This one is aimed more at a younger crowd. I'll tell you more next week.
This weekend Team JumpCut defends its Best Film Title(Crimes A' Cookin') in the 48 Hour Film Fest. Nobody will know the genre we are competing in 'til Friday night. Then it has to be written, cast, filmed and edited by Sunday evening.

A Clockwork Orange- The Play is being produced in Ft. Myers in September. Hence, the reference to the Ludovico Technique. My memory of the movie is a little vague on details, but it is a stunning piece that will be disturbing to most of its audiences.

Spanish is not a language that I am anywhere near fluent in, but I was able to memorize a line well enough for a Toyota commercial. Somehow, my agentt thinks I have an Hispanic look. Must be the mustache. Sunday night a few Sarasota area actors and I got together to discuss how to grow careers and give mutual support. I think this group will get bigger.
On Thursday, I'll be on a shoot playing a rogue detective in a film noir production being done in Tampa. I love those kind of roles.

The Rainy Season is upon us and the cranking up of TV and movie productions begins here. Burn Notice has started production again and there is talk of even more films having scenes shot in FL. Last week I auditioned at the Orlando Repertory Theater for a December production and this week it looks like more voiceover work is on the slate - along with an audition for an indie film to be shot in Tampa. It's a Bad Guy role that I always enjoy, so it should be fun.

Early last week an indie film produced out of NYC was in Sarasota shooting some scenes for the movie The Jonestown Defense and at one point we were improv-ing while circling over Wauchula in a small aircraft. Actors sometimes pigeonhole themselves and limit their ability to grow and prosper. Fortunately, my new found "career" has a lot of variety. I act in movies and on the stage. It's not easy to maintain a positive attitude during an economic downturn that government seems hellbent to make worse. The key, from all I have read and experienced, seems to be to make sure you surround yourself with upbeat people. Actors are used to being out of work as it happens every time a film wraps or a show's run ends. Monday started with a drive to Punta Gorda to shoot a myriad of shots and praise the Palm Auto Mall operation - which seems to handle every car make you can think of. Its agency folk came down from Atlanta to get the footage to match the latest commercial jingle. The spots produced from this will all appear in the Ft. We have new Fitness Instructors (1 for Pre/Post Natal Fitness, Plus 1 for Weight and Figure Control fitness) AND Mitch mallet has agreed to come in and do his ID Protection Seminar afterward! All very exciting!
